Snakes!!! (in south asia)

Snakes are awesome. Some of them can swallow a human whole. Most of them don't need to though (they have poison), but that same poison can be used for medicine. DONE!

India and their snakes.

If you haven't noticed yet, snakes are a large and important part to the culture in India.  It was normal to hunt snakes up until the 1970s when the government banned the practice of hunting snakes.  Besides hunting the animal, people make festivals and celebrations.   A common action people do to snakes are use them in their snake charming songs to earn money and or attention.  Though most of the adult population of India knows that snakes are rather poisonous and can kill they still use them whenever they can.  Besides entertainment and food the snake has been used to make a anti poison to prevent the deaths of many people.

The Sweggy Gharial

Wassup guys! Anyway, I am telling you guys about an animal that I proudly like to call ...The Gharial Crocodile. It’s one of the really freaking swaggy animals that eats like, everything. Though that really boring video made the crocodile look lamer than math, (No offense Mrs. Sheufelt.) It is actually extremely awesome and rare. Another reason it is awesome is because it is the longest crocodile in South Asia, measuring up to a gargantuan 21 feet! (21.) B-T Dubs, did you know that they can grow up to 2,154 pounds? Crazy, right? This crocodile is so freaky, it can give Freddy Krueger nightmares! #yomamajoke#reference. Well, It looks like I’m all out of time, so I’ll see you guys later. Peace Out!

Snake Venom

I think the best field trip would be about snakes. We would find snakes in the wild. Then take them to the venom factory. Then we would each milk a snake by ourselves with no help. In India many people get bitten by snakes every year. To find a snake you should look underground. They are very venomous so make sure to grab them as close to the head as you can. You can milk snakes by sticking their head near a jar and they will take the fangs out. The snake will release venom and the venom can be used for a cure to snake bites. The snake’s crystallized venom and horse blood is a few ingredients to  make the antidote. That is the best field trip ever.

50 Shades of Gray

ERMAHGERD… what is big, grey and loves baths?? ELEPHANTS!! Elephants are called elephas maximus by scientists. They are the largest mammal on Earth. The elephants in Africa are just a little bit bigger than their cousins in Asia. You can distinguish the two by looking at the ears. Asian elephants have rounder ears, whereas  the African elephants ears look well, like Africa. ERMAHGERD, I want to learn more about these Asian elephants! Okay then, let’s take a closer look at the Asian elephants. “Hop on the magic school bu...”, ERMAHGERD just get to the point! A way that these giants keep themselves cool (like a cucumber :D) is by using their ears to radiate heat. Sometime this isn’t enough. This is where the trunk comes in. The trunk sucks in water and sprays it overhead showering the elephant with water. Although they use the trunk to get themselves wet, elephants prefer to wade in a lake. Just in case you were wondering, the trunk is actually a giant multi-functional nose and has about 100,000 different muscles. ERMAHGERD, it would be sooooo cool to have a long nose! Yeah I-knows! The elephants use their nose for various activities like breathing, smelling, trumpeting (elephants like to toot their own horn ;P) and drinking water. They also use their trunk for grabbing a bite to eat. Speaking of food, elephants are herbivores and not only use their trunks, but they also use their tusks. The tusks are good for digging up roots, grass and stripping bark. Elephants also enjoy eating fruits. A single adult elephant can consume up to 300 pounds of food. ERMAHGERD, elephant tusks are so cool! They are cool, but they have caused some issues for the animal. Ivory is very valuable and many elephants have been killed for their tusks. Even though this trade for ivory is illegal, it hasn't been eliminated completely. These majestic elephants are really something to ERMAHGERD about. Hope you enjoyed the trip!!

The Festival

On my vacation I would travel to India to go to the Nag Panchami -cobra festival. I would journey to India on the fifth day day of bright half of Lunar month of Shravan (July/August, according to the Hindu calendar) and watch the festival. perhaps even catch my own cobra to be in the competition of either  height or weight. It might be intimidating to be around so many venomous creatures, but enthralling at the same time. It seems interesting to see how much people worship snakes in  India and Nepal. The journey would be rough considering that first class on a train there is like a park bench with a cushion but it would be worth it. I might be afraid of snakes, but I would like to overcome this fear.  It seems like an adventure worth going on and I hope one day I can make it real.

Snake in India!

Snakes have a major impact on India and its culture. Before the Indian government made it illegal to hunt snakes in 1970s, people would hunt them on a daily basis. They would kill them and use their skin to make something, or sell it to a leather company. After that law, their community fell apart. Rather than letting that happen; they would go out and instead of killing them they would only capture them. Then, they would melt the venom out of them and use it as an antidote. Snakes can be found all over India, and they also have helped shape their culture in many ways.
