Eating in Space

Bon appétit!

The astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) have been successful in their first attempts at growing food of their own, but they only have grown a few things and with the few foods they can't make a delicious meal. But an initiative from NASA's HUNCH (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) program has the agency taking advice from some teenage culinary stars on how to spice up the ISS menu.

Through the HUNCH program, NASA partners with schools to provide students an opportunity to put their stamp on some of the products populating the ISS. For the HUNCH Culinary Challenge, 21 teams of high school chefs from around the United States are competing to create a recipe that will pass muster with a panel of discerning judges. The winning dish will be sent up to the ISS and served to astronauts.High school culinary students compete to have dishes sent to NASA.

    1. Thanks! If I had the chance to eat space ice cream I would, but the others seem weird. For your first question I don't really know how long they freeze dry the food.

  2. I thought this was really cool and peaked my interest! I really liked how you included what things stood for, that helped me better understand your post. I am also wondering how they freeze dry meals? This was really interesting and I would like to know more about the types of food that they will do. What food would you be willing to eat freeze dried?

  3. This was a really interesting post! I learned a lot and wonder how long they freeze dry the food?I like how you asked the readers if they would ever eat space food, personally I would never eat space food unless I was forced to and here was no other food. This was a good topic to write about and the information was really cool to learn about. Would you eat space food if you had to?
