Halong Bay a Amazing Place

Halong Bay Vietnam also known as the Bay of Descending Dragons. Just imagine more than 2000 islands rising out of the magnificent waters, because thats what this bay is. Halong translates as “where the dragon descends into the sea”. It’s called Bay of Descending Dragons because of a story where people saw a snake like creature, or dragon from the mountains. It even has a legend where the bay was created by a great dragon from the mountains. Then charged toward the coast and made all the valleys and crevasses. Finally when it descended into the sea the area around it was filled with water. Many people travel the caves in the islands, and see the amazing site. I would like to go to Vietnam to see the Halong Bay. What places in Southeast Asia would to visit?

  1. I would like to visit Krabi in Thailand. Halong Bay seems almost the same as Krabi but Krabi doesn't come with a legend. Hang Đầu Gỗ is the biggest cave on the Halong Bay and was discovered by French tourists in the late 19th century. Alot of the other islands are hollow from the caves inside. There is another myth that when the Vietnamese were starting their country they had to defend against invaders. To help, the gods sent down dragons that spit out jade which turned into all of the little islands in the bay. You should check out Maxim's post because it is also about Halong bay. Do you think that in the islands there is jade like the stuff that people say the dragons spit out?

  2. The Halong Bay sounds very beautiful. It is actually really similar to the place that I wrote my blog on, the Krabi Province. They are similar because they both have beautiful beaches. That is very interesting that it translates into “where the dragon descends into the sea”. It does make sense because of the story. The beaches look very breathtaking and this looks like it would be a cool place to visit. I recommend you Syed’s paper because it has more information on Halong Bay.

  3. Wow! Halong Bay sounds and looks like one of the most beautiful places in the world! To be honest, I would want to go there for two reasons. First, they probably have the softest sand and the bluest waters in the whole continent of Asia! And the second reason is to see if I can find the dragon. Just kidding. (Sort of. ;) You should read Syed's post about the Halong "Bæ". Anybody else want to go here?
