Thailand, land of eccentricity.

Just as in every country, Thailand has its unique qualities. From the the Festival of lights [also known as Loi Krathong], to the Krabi province, to perhaps the most recent activity of all, Phuket Bike Week. During the Festival of Lights, thousands of paper lanterns are released into the sky. They supposedly ward of bad luck. While these miraculous lanterns dot the sky like stars in space, the rivers are covered by floating paper lanterns, adorned with candles and joss sticks. “The true meaning of this festival is to worship Buddha and the Goddess of the River” says Chiang Meng local Sarah Wahtong. The Festival has transformed from a reverent temple ritual to a rambunctious event that lasts for days. The city of Chai Meng is the largest and most important city in northern Thailand, also the capital of the Chiang Meng Province. And this city comes to life through flower and flame during the Festival of Lights. Imagine the intense beauty of the floating lanterns, and smell of the joss sticks, and the coolness of the river water against your skin. Wouldn’t you want to visit there? Why or why not?

  1. Hey Elizabeth, I have read your blog and watched your video. It looks so awesome! I really like the picture you put. With the reflection on the water it makes it look so much cooler. I think the perfect place to launch them is on the beach. I suggest you read Kyle's post. I think you'll find it interesting

  2. I would like to tell you that this was an amazing post. Hs a good amount of information, but in my post I talked about the Grand Palace. If you didn't find anything on it i am suprised. It is a beautiful palace with many different architectural styles going through out. It used to house the rulers of the land but stopped after one of them died.
