Momo: a dumpling, not a duck

The one country in South Asia I would like to visit is Nepal. I would like to visit Nepal because it is rich in culture, and the Nepalese cuisine, as I'm told, is very good. A dish that intrigued me is called momo, which is kind of like a dumpling. There different variations of dumplings from countries like China, Japan, and Mongolia, but momo is unique because of its Nepalese spices. It is believed to originate from Tibet (a region in China), and since then it has spread to other South Asian countries.

Image result for momo dumpling Made with just a flour-and-water dough, it is then rolled into flat round pieces, ready for folding.  There are plenty of fillings to choose from, the most popular ones being minced meat and vegetables. The most traditional way of cooking momos is by boiling them. There other ways of cooking them, like pan frying or baking. Depending on the menu, momos can be served in different ways, like in a soup.

Would you ever try momos?

  3. I agree with Nawal, this dish sounds amazing. I would definitely want to try this dish. I love the idea of a dumpling in soup! Why do you think this dish is called a momo? You talk about how "momo is unique because of its Nepalese spices", so you might want to read Colby's post about turmeric spice, which is an important spice in India. You can learn about other spices in this region! Great job!

  4. Momo sounds delicious! I would love to try it. Where did you learn about momo and do you know if it's sold anywhere in the United States. In a way, momo seems similar to samosas. Samosas are not a dumpling but they are dough with either meat, potatoes,or vegetables inside. I think that you did a great job with your post, it was very descriptive and interesting!
