The Celebration of Colors

Holi, the celebration of colors is my favorite holiday in India. This festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and forgive and forget. Before the fun part (throwing colorful powder at people) a ritual must be performed. People light fires and pray that their inner demons should be destroyed by the fire. The next day people gather in the streets with powder and water in hand. During this day people get drenched and smeared with color. They drink and laugh with family and friends and after sobering up a bit they enjoy delicious food and delicacies. I do this every year with a family friend and every year I think I am not going to do it again because the powder gets stuck in your hair, and every year I do it again. Would you want to try it?

  1. I really liked learning about this cool festival. I would probably like to try this because it would be fun to experience the celebration. I also liked learning about the history of the celebration from Ayan. It was interesting to see where the colors come from, and how long ago it started. Where do you go to celebrate the festival? Do you go to India?
