Sri Lanka

If I went to a country in South Asia it would be Sri Lanka because  the food there sounds very unique, they have amazing sightseeing, and have amazing festivals. Sri Lankan food is unique because it contains ingredients like coconut, red, black, and white curries, and jaggery. Jaggery is a coarse brown sugar made from the sap of palm trees. We don’t have these normally have these ingredients in the U.S., so it makes me want to try the food there even more. Certain delicious foods are made for the festival of Esala Perahera or (procession of Esala). Esala Perahera is held in August to give acknowledgement to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Foods like Rotis (coconut flatbread), Malu Hodhi (curried fish), and Kiribath ( a milk rice pudding kind of food) are just a few foods served at Esala Perahera. During Esala Perahera, people do a big parade and dress up in beautiful, exquisite costumes. Elephants walk in the parade and one of them carries a golden casket that is said to hold the tooth of Lord Buddha. At the parade/procession Sri Lankans perform many traditional dances like fire-dances, whip-dances, and Kandyan dances. The celebrations are not the only fun thing about Sri Lanka. Many people go there to visit Adam’s Peak, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Temple of the Tooth, or take a safari at Yala National Park or Udawalawe National Park or Bundala National Park! If I were you, I would want to take a safari at Bundala National Park. Where would you want to go if you went to Sri Lanka?

  1. Audra if you want to learn more about the food you can check out my post but, your was really good. I think if I went to Sri Lanka I ride the safari at Yala National Park because, I loved to see the different animals located in Sri Lanka. The traditions they follow seem really believable but, I would think the tooth would be very fragile or missing because, who would be in charge of looking after Lord Buddha's Tooth. What do you think?

    1. I think that the Buddha's Tooth was guarded by his followers in ancient times. I don't think that anyone opened the box that holds the tooth after the tooth was put in there so it might be discintegrated or, the tooth could be fine.
