Rainbows everywhere

Who doesn't love color? Not me! Holi (or festival of colors/love) starts with a Holika bonfire in parts of South Asia and and some towns on the border of Asia the night before Holi. This is where people gather to sing and dance as celebration usually in taking place in March. The next morning, people cover each other in colorful power and water. People will use their hands, guns and sometimes balloons. One reason I really admire this colorful war is because anyone and everyone can participate no matter what you believe in or look like. So I have a question for you, if you had the chance to participate, would you?

  1. I would absolutely, positively LOVE to participate in this festival! It would be fun to throw colored powder and dyed water at my brother, I'm sure you would like to turn your brother into a rainbow too! Did you know that the Holi Festival received its name, “The Festival of Colours”, from Lord Krishna because he liked to play pranks on other village girls by soaking them with colored powder and dyed water? Also the bonfire they hold the night before the festival is meant to burn away evil spirits. You should check out Lily Li’s post, “Holy Cow”, because even though it is about a festival in Nepal, the Festival of Cows also brings people together with humor and joy. The only difference is that this festival has cows instead of colors and it also helps people accept and move on with their lives after a loved one has past away.

  2. I think everyone would want to participate. You are right, who doesn't love color? This is like the color run. I have always wanted to participate in the color run. Did you know that unlike the color run, the Holi is also the festival of love in South Asia. I would also like to get drenched in color because it would be fun to come home and hear my parents say, "WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR CLOTHING!?!?!?" Also you should visit colours for more info about things like this. Wouldn't we all like to say that we participated in something like the color run?
