Have You Even Heard of This Place?

The Maldives. Even though you may or may not have heard of them until now, I already find them interesting. Eid-ul Al’h’aa is the longest festival in the country. It is five-seven days long and people make plans way in advance to visit relatives and friends on other islands.

Traditional music, games, foods and fun have a large place in this festival. Every person of all ages and gender participate in this annual celebration. I think that this festival would be fun because it is so long. We don’t really have any festivals (that I can think of) that last that long here. To me, it would be more engaging because it’s quite a while to be focused on one thing, and that would make it special as I could just be focused on that one thing. If you were ever going to a Maldives Festival, how would you approach it?

  1. The Maldive Islands look like a beautiful place to visit. Even though, it is one of the smallest Asian countries, it has pretty white sand beaches. It is sad that, in 2004, a tsunami destroyed a lot of the islands of Maldive. But I would still like to go to the islands on the 10th day of Zul Hijja for the Eid-ul Al’h’aa. You should read Advaith’s blog post about two festivals in India. In fact, one festival called Pongal last for five days. On the last day they get to eat sweets.
