sports in Afghanistan

Did you know that Afghanistan plays sports too? One of Afghanistan’s favorite sports is goat pulling. Goat pulling is when two teams compete for possession of a headless animal carcass (usually a calf). They also play basketball, tennis, soccer, golf, field hockey and cricket.

Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Village homes are usually very small and have mattresses as beds and during the day stack them next to the wall. The homes are made of brick plastered with mud and straw and the roofs are made flat. They are made like that because things are so poor. Would you like to live like them, I highly doubt it?

Rainbow Road?

I have always wanted to visit India because it’s part of my culture. One thing I would love to see in India is the Festival Of Colors. The Hindu Festival Of Colors is a festival that celebrates the beginning of Spring. It is celebrated at the end of the winter season, on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna. This festival is celebrated by the Hindus throwing bright colored powdered water at each other. People throw up the colorful powder into the air every hour so that the rainbow colors never go away. In most places across the world, The Festival Of Colors is celebrated over two days! One thing that takes place in Michigan that reminded me of this festival was The Color Run. The Color Run also uses powder as they do in The Festival Of Colors. I’m really interested in The Festival Of Colors and The Color Run. If you want to be covered from head to toe with all of the colors of the rainbow such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and etc. May I suggest The Hindu Festival Of Colors? Have you ever been to The Festival Of Colors or ran The Color Run?

137 Billion Dollars!!!

India aims to invest 137 billion dollars into its rail ways over the next five years!!! But to reach that goal India will have to have its economic system speed up more than ever. Over the next India will have to increase its investments by 16.15 billion dollars. India has the fourth largest rail way in the world. But its also going to create more jobs. The miles of track being built will allow for more job not only building but also for ticket sales men, conductors and more jobs at the station. Would you be happy about this if you lived in India, or would you not like it because of extra taxes and other down falls?

Indian cuisines

Have you ever wanted to go around the world?  See what their culture is like?   Even try some new food?  Well if that is your dream then you should maybe go to India.  The country of India has a vast amount of food.  Most of the food that the people of India eat are mostly vegetables cuisines so people who love meat are out of luck.  Like the andhra predesh which is like a omelet but made with only vegetables and other things that aren't meat and is commonly eaten for breakfast just like an omelet.  There is also the bihar which is a wheat cake baked or grilled and is commonly eaten for lunch or dinner.  As you can tell the people of India have a very diverse selection of cuisines to eat for lunch, dinner, and breakfast and I could of listed a lot more meals they eat for each category

Ahhh... Nepal, not that nice of a place

I am doing Nepal since it is very unique for lots of reasons. Firstly because it is one of the only countries with a non-square flag, its flag is two triangles on each other. Also that flag is crimson red, with a blue border and the bottom triangle has a star in the middle the top triangle has a half sun in the moon, so it is a pretty impressive flag. The most common food is Dhido: flour pudding, dhido is commonly found in rural areas were they have the plants to make dhido. Another common food is Chiura, which is made from a patty and then doing lots of things to it. One of the most deadly things in Nepal are… diseases! The common traveler is vulnerable to typhoid which can kill you, and Hepatitis A which can be cured but is still dangerous. Would you like to go to Nepal? Even there are many deadly things there, but good food?

What is you Hobby?

Have you ever thought what people do for fun in other countries? In South Asia they have many hobbies and attractions. For example Kayangan Lake holds over 500 species of fish with various sharks, people come from all over to go snorkeling and scuba diving here.  Another attraction is in Singapore, it has a Universal Studios , and a night watch safari. That would be so cool to see the animals at night riding around in a big jeep. In Thailand they have some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia, with magnificent sunsets with the turquoise blue waters. If you would go to South Asia what would you do,go to he amazing beaches or daring attractions?

Do you want to go to India now?

I am writing/typing about India because everyone else is.. India celebrates multiple religious holidays including but not limited to: Holi, Diwali, and Shivratri. Holi is the festival of color or colour as they spell it there. Diwali is the festival of lights. Shivratri is the celebration of the god of destruction,Shiva. Personally, I have been to India and you have to be VERY cautious. First, you have to take a malaria pill for three months before and after the trip. Second, you have to bring milk from home unless you want to buy milk, boil it, take some water , boil that, freeze the water, and put it in your milk so it cools down. Finally, the plane ride is a whole EIGHTEEN hours there and TWENTY back! Do you want to go to India now that you have heard the hardships?

Spicy, spicy, spicy

The country that I researched was Bhutan. The thing that I found most interesting from reading articles about that country, is that they have Bhutanese peppers there. Apparently, bhutanese people love spicy things. One of the famous entrees served in Bhutan, is Emadatse. This specific dish is made with chili, and cooked in cheese. They also have many other great dishes served in Bhutan, for people who don’t like spicy things in Bhutan, which isn't so common. They have options of different food, a lot alike America. Some of the options include Chinese, Bhutanese, Tibetan and Indian cuisine. Those are some things that I looked up about Bhutan. Would you be someone who would eat spicy foods all day, or not?

Sri Lanka

If I went to a country in South Asia it would be Sri Lanka because  the food there sounds very unique, they have amazing sightseeing, and have amazing festivals. Sri Lankan food is unique because it contains ingredients like coconut, red, black, and white curries, and jaggery. Jaggery is a coarse brown sugar made from the sap of palm trees. We don’t have these normally have these ingredients in the U.S., so it makes me want to try the food there even more. Certain delicious foods are made for the festival of Esala Perahera or (procession of Esala). Esala Perahera is held in August to give acknowledgement to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Foods like Rotis (coconut flatbread), Malu Hodhi (curried fish), and Kiribath ( a milk rice pudding kind of food) are just a few foods served at Esala Perahera. During Esala Perahera, people do a big parade and dress up in beautiful, exquisite costumes. Elephants walk in the parade and one of them carries a golden casket that is said to hold the tooth of Lord Buddha. At the parade/procession Sri Lankans perform many traditional dances like fire-dances, whip-dances, and Kandyan dances. The celebrations are not the only fun thing about Sri Lanka. Many people go there to visit Adam’s Peak, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Temple of the Tooth, or take a safari at Yala National Park or Udawalawe National Park or Bundala National Park! If I were you, I would want to take a safari at Bundala National Park. Where would you want to go if you went to Sri Lanka?

Afghanistan's famous foods and festivals

Afghanistan is a very interesting country that I would like to visit. One of these reasons why is because of their delicious looking foods! Specifically the Qabili Palau, which includes rice, any sort of meat, broth, lentils, raisins, and carrots. To me the raisin part doesn't sound too good, but they make it look very delicious in the picture! Another thing that might be interesting to do in Afghanistan would be their Nauroz festival. Nauroz is a the largest and best known festival in Afghanistan and celebrates New Year. At this event Buzkashi matches are held. People play music and dance. Farmers express their joy for the produce. Do you think Afghanistan would be a fun place to visit?

Nepal, a place I would like to visit someday.

Nepal is a place I would like to visit someday.  They have a lot of festivals in Nepal.  The two biggest festivals in Nepal are Dashain and Tihar.  Dashain is a festival celebrated by all of the Nepalese.  It is also the longest festival because it lasts for fifteen days.  The festival takes place in late September through early October.  The people of Nepal worship the goddess Durga.  Durga is believed to be the mother of the universe.  During Dashain, people celebrate with pujas.  Pujas are religious rituals that involve offerings and animal sacrifices.   The second biggest festival in Nepal is Tihar.  It takes place between October and November and last for five days.  The people of Nepal worship the goddess Laxmi who is the goddess of wealth.  They also worship crows, dogs, and cows.  I think it would be fun to visit Nepal in October or November to see all the festivities.  Do you think it would be fun to go to the festivals?

Bangladesh Sports and Games

Bangladesh has multiple different things they are known for, some being certain sports. Sports and games are a major part of their community, and it would be rare not to see people and kids enjoying these activities on the streets as you pass by. They are most popular for their excellent cricket playing. In 2011, they hosted the Cricket World Cup with India and Sri Lanka, and was elected to host the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. Football and soccer are the second most popular sports in Bangladesh. Big clubs have passionate fans, who follow every aspect of the club.  The national sport of Bangladesh is kabaddi, in which two teams compete for higher scores by touching and capturing their opponents. Much like dodgeball because it uses a big court. Badminton is widely played here, and continues to grow more and more, along with chess. Though chess has slowly emerged into a major deal in Bangladesh, many people have mastered it and now compete nationally and locally. If you were to live here, which sport would you play and why? Maybe you would just enjoy watching a certain one, and that’s fine. But which do you suppose you would be most interested in?

Milaad un Nabi... interesting name.

Milaad un Nabi is a sacred festival celebrated by Muslim countries and India as well, need more information? Well read on. The day is used to celebrate the prophet Muhammad and is usually celebrated on the third month of the Islamic calendar, though each calendar will have a different day.  The celebration of Prophet's birthday is believed to have its origins on the 8th century when it is believed the prophets birth house was converted into a house of prayer.Centuries ago, the day was celebrated with animal and possession sacrifices
during the day. Even though I did research to get you this short post, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

Aluth Avurudda

In Sri Lanka every year around April 13th, the Sinhala people celebrate Aluth Avurudda, also known as Sinhalese New Year.  It is a major anniversary celebrated by not only the Sinhalese people, but by most Sri Lankans. During the new year, the Sri Lankans do activities like games, family gathering, family meal, visiting friends and relatives, and prayer. Another new year celebration observed in Sri Lanka is the Tamil New Year, better known as Puthandu. During the Tamil New Year the Sri Lankans feasting, gift-give, and visit homes. The Sri Lankans celebrate their new year around April 13th, because it would be the month of the Chitterai. I would love to go to Sri Lanka and celebrate both of these festivals. Which new year would you rather celebrate?

All Spice Very Enjoyable??!

Indians have many very cool characteristics about the country. I chose India because There is a very cool article that states that 75% of Indian food is spice and vegetables and fruit. Many chiefs, scientists, and me think that this is very very true. One thing that I think is cool about India is how many things they do for fun there. They sing, dance, watch special movies, and do puppetry. In villages, puppetry is quite popular. Music in India consists of folk, popular, pop and classical. In classical, you have the Hindustani and Carnatic music. Folk songs are also very popular. Regular puppet shows are organized and people come to see them, particularly during the festivals. Speaking about festivals their three main  national holidays in India: Independence Day on August 15th , Mahatma Gandhi's birthday on October 2nd and Republic Day on January 26th . What do you like about India and its features??

TURN UP INDIA STYLE

Out of those countries in South Asia, I would like to visit India the most. The reason I chose India is because I was looking online and I saw lots of delicious foods, and some awesome festivals. There are many different foods in India such as kofta, khichdi, and kheer. The one that I thought would taste the best was a dish called Litti chokha. It’s a baked salted wheat flour cake filled with sattu (baked chickpea flour) and some special spices. Of all the festivals I looked at, the coolest of them all was a festival called Holi, where people celebrate the victories of good over evil by throwing colored powder and water all over each other while they party all day.

BIZARRE FOODS! OH NO!

Foods are what bring people and their traditions together, and it is a wonderful thing to have. If you think about it, foods that we think are disgusting in other regions just might be what connects people there because it actually maybe be truly delicious! Indians have so many outstanding dishes that will just blow you away! There are so many bizarre but marvelous Indian foods, such as, Aloo Tikki(appetizer), Momos, Tandoori Chicken, and Chicken Jalfrezi. These are four classic yummy indian restaurant dishes that satisfy many of the people in India. You never know what you may like until you try it! I have learned that things that seem gross to us are mouthwatering everyday snacks to people across the globe! Tell me, what new foods will you like to try?

Afghanistan

In Afghanistan a lot of great dishes are served. For intense Pulao is a traditional food that contains steamed rice with raisins and carrots, but usually people serve it with a side dish meat, vegetables, or beans. One time I went over to my friend from Afghanistan and and we had Pulao because it was Ramadan. Another favourite dish is Qabi pulao a popular king of Pulao that is served with lamb. The most favorited festival is New Years. In Afghanistan there is a lot to do. You can visit the Barbur Tomb that have very attractive gardens and beautiful masjids. ANother place that you can visit in Afghanistan is the Green Mosque. This Masjid has many history of Islamic culture. I would love to visit Afghanistan and see the culture and nature’s beauty!

Sri Lankan sports

Did you know that sri lanka plays, cricket, football, and rugby? Made errors. Did you know that Sri Lanka plays cricket, football, and rugby? They play these sports because, they play for fun, competition, and for scholarships. Whoops, made another mistake. They play these sports because they play for fun, competition, and for scholarships. i want to visit sri lanka someday to have fun with some of my friends in Sri Lanka and make new friends. Oh my supercalifragilisticexpalidocious. I made another mistake. I want to visit Sri Lanka someday to have fun with some of my friends in Sri Lanka and make new friends. Lastly, I want to visit the capital of Sri Lanka because I want to meet the president and I want to see the building where the president lives and works.

Yasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Most of you eat chicken in your daily lives right? Well try to eat lamb gross right? The most common dish non-vegetarians eat are chicken and lamb. When we eat food we silverware such as forks, knives, and spoons, not in India they use their fingers or bread to eat. There are many types of breads that get served with certain meals such as, naan, a oven baked flatbread and batoora a fluffy flatbread that’s common in North India. I've never had Indian food or even thought about tasting some. As I learned these few things about North India it really makes me want to learn more new things. So do yo want to learn new things about your country?

Goat Grabbing

Buzkashi, which literally means "goat grabbing", is the national sport of Afghanistan. In the game of Buzkashi, a headless carcass is placed in the center of a circle and surrounded by the players of two opposing teams. The object of the game is to get control of the carcass and bring it to the scoring area. This may seem like a simple task, but it is not. Only the most masterful players, called chapandaz, ever even get close to the carcass. The competition is fierce, and the winner of a match receives prizes that have been donated by a certain sponsor. These prizes range from money, to fine turbans and clothes. Honestly, I think it would be kind of gross to grab a headless goat, but I think it would also be very interesting to watch. Would you want to play the “goat grabbing” game of Afghanistan?

Diwali

Diwali is the festival of lights. Diwali is when Indian’s play around with fireworks, and they also make designs with this powdery kind of material. On Diwali the girls and women wear saris and half saris. The men wear pants and shirts. We eat sweets on Diwali. The types of sweets that we eat (that are also my favorite kinds of sweets) are gulab jamun, Jalebi,, rava laddu, kaju barfi and etc. The story behind Diwali is based on a book called Ramayana. It’s about a prince named Rama who lived in Ayodhya. Rama gets sent to the forest for fourteen years with his brother Lakshmana and his wife Sita. They stay in the forest and then one day Sita got kidnapped by this bad, cruel king named Ravana. Ravana ruled an Island kingdom named Lanka. Rama fought Ravana and saved Sita. Then Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana went back to Ayodhya and the people of Ayodhya celebrated the day Rama came back to  the kingdom with fireworks and sweets. That day is now known as Deepavali and it is also called as Diwali.

Festivals in India

I am going to write about a festifal, Pongal, celebrated in southern India. Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, a southern state of India. On the first day, people celebrate Indra, the king of Gods. The second day, they do prayers of ceremonial worship to Indra. On the third day, they feed and decorate the cows because cow is God’s favowrite animal. On the final day, they eat the sweets, and sprinkle turmeric water, limestone, rice on the front of there homes. Many other festivals are also celebrated in India. Diwali is a traditional celebration where you light candles and lamps around the house. This celebration can last up to five days. Another Indian festival is Holi, which celebrates good over evil. It is also called “the festival of colors” because people throw colored powder on one another. There are too many festivals in India. What do you think about these celebrations?l

Have You Even Heard of This Place?

The Maldives. Even though you may or may not have heard of them until now, I already find them interesting. Eid-ul Al’h’aa is the longest festival in the country. It is five-seven days long and people make plans way in advance to visit relatives and friends on other islands.

Traditional music, games, foods and fun have a large place in this festival. Every person of all ages and gender participate in this annual celebration. I think that this festival would be fun because it is so long. We don’t really have any festivals (that I can think of) that last that long here. To me, it would be more engaging because it’s quite a while to be focused on one thing, and that would make it special as I could just be focused on that one thing. If you were ever going to a Maldives Festival, how would you approach it?
