A World Away

Though Ancient Greece may appear to be a world away for all of us, what connects us is democracy. For 30 years during the Golden Age there was a man named, Pericle which was considered one of the most powerful men in Greek politics. He was well educated and wrote speeches for the Athenians, for the purpose of moving and persuading them. Pericle was a member of a family called, the Aristocrats which did not support democracy like him. Around 460 BC Pericle became the leader of democracy and it was his leadership that still affects how we view democracy in the United States today.
The United States is approximately 5,873 miles from Greece, yet our public officials still                    write speeches for the purpose of obtaining votes, just like the Golden Age. We know that the              candidate with the best speech is the one which has convince us that they would be most suited            for the job. It's like being on  an episode of Survivor you don't know until the very end who                has played the best game. My question for you our future leaders, do you think the United                    States  would be the same if we did not have democracy in this country and why?

  1. Good job Devin. I like the picture of the Fourth of July. Also to answer your question if there was not democracy our country would be different. Good thing Pericle was the leader of democracy or a lot of things would be changed. Would you want to be a leader of democracy or work for the government.
