Ready, Set, Greece!!!

The Olympic games were quite a big deal back then in Ancient Greece. They began in 700 B.C. in honor of Zeus, and now the whole world is organizing them! Back then, though, it wasn’t all fair. Not everyone could watch the Olympics, only the men could. Girls, imagine if you were blockaded in your room while your dad and brother (if you have one) sat downstairs and watched gymnastics, swimming, dancing, snowboarding, skiing, track and whatever they want to watch. Not exactly the fairest way to spend every four years, am I right? But back then, the Olympics had completely different sports. They involved four different races. One was the sprint for one stadium. The other one was a race of 7-24 stadiums!!! Finally, the last one was a full armor race, where competitors would wear full armor and race for  2-4 stadiums. Now, what do you think would have been a good sport for the Olympics in Ancient Greece?

  1. I think that you did a great job explaining the Olympics in Ancient Greece. It is unfair that the women couldn't watch it. I liked your joke about being stuck in your room. The fact that they watch gymnastics and they’re all boys. Overall, I very much liked your post about Greek Olympics.
