Greek Theatre: Before Shakespeare

Did you know that the word theatre came from the Greeks? Greeks were actually very talented in building theatres and concert halls for these plays to take place. The theatres had an altar to make sacrifices to Dionysus, god of wine. All of the actors were men. they would all wear large masks with eyes and mouth holes. Greek plays were in two categories: comedies and tragedies.Comedies focused more on everyday life and tragedies focused on the past. The actors in comedies would wear lively colored outfits and actors in tragedies wore dark outfits. I hope you learned about Greek theatre. Will you support the Greeks?

  1. I wrote about the same thing, this is a very interesting topic. I learned a lot of great new information about this. Their architecture is amazing too. The places that they put on their plays were enormous and their art and buildings were amazing. With all this Greek greatness in culture, who wouldn’t want to go there?
